What does internal medicine cover?
It is the branch of medicine that covers the diagnosis and follow-up of many organ systems in adults, such as heart and blood vessels, lungs, digestion, liver, kidneys, hormones and blood.
Does high blood pressure always cause symptoms?
No. High blood pressure often causes no symptoms, which is why it matters to keep track of measured values regularly.
What should I pay attention to when measuring blood pressure at home?
It is recommended to rest seated for about five minutes before measuring, support your back and arm, keep your arm at heart level, avoid coffee, smoking and exercise for at least 30 minutes beforehand, and not talk during the measurement.
Which complaints can occur in diabetes?
Excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss and tiredness may occur. In the early period there may be no symptoms at all.
Do I need to fast for a blood test?
For some tests (for example fasting blood glucose and some lipid measurements) a certain fasting period is requested; this period differs by test. Preparation instructions are given in the guidance of the healthcare institution requesting the test.
When should I call 112?
If chest pain comes with cold sweating or shortness of breath, or if there is sudden severe shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, vomiting blood, black stools or bleeding that cannot be stopped, call 112 (the emergency number in Türkiye) without losing time.
